The Valär Family
The Valärs
The Valär family has an amazing history, winding it's way from the 17th century to today. I'm proud to be able to be part of such an amazing group of people.
The Valär family members who settled in Davos are believed to have originally come from Spain. They were one of the 1st seven families to settle in the town of Davos, Switzerland. When they settled their name was spelt Faleer. This town is in the canton (state) of Grabunden. The fact that the Valärs were one of the seven families has made them well known in the town and the main church in the town features an engraved tomb bearing the Valär name.
At first, life was hard in Davos. There were so few people that you would have to travel to another valley just to find someone you could marry. It eventually got easier as more people moved into the valley. In winter the farming family stayed in the valley, while during the summer they would go up to Lochalp to hay and raise cows. The family name would eventually be spelt Valär.
The family would continue up to Christian Valär who would marry Ursula Valär. View their story in depth, below.
